I am not sure of the above answer but I did go through one and found errors so:
Milk is a mixture
Wood is a compound
Copper is an element
Salt is an element
Paint is a mixture
O2 is a compound
Cement is a mixture when wet, compound when dry, although if it has stone in it those remain 'mixed'
CO2 is a compound
NaOH is a compound
He is an element
Soup is a mixture
Sugar is H2O is a mixture
Brass is an alloy (a kind of mixture)
Stainless steel is an alloy (mixture)
Iron rust is a compound
Gasoline is a compound-the stuff sold at the pump is a mixture (thus the word-additives that you hear in commercials)
Distilled purified water is a compound
Silver is an element
Sucrose is a compound

The "A" is yours!!!!!!!!!

. . . and if you didn't know . . . now you do . . .

1. mixture
2. compound
3.element
4. compound
5. mixture
6. compound
7. compound
8. mixture
9. compound
10. compound
11. element
12. mixture
13. mixture
14. compound
15. compound
16. compound
17. pure substance
18. compound
19 element
20. mixture.

I think this is right!! If you get a table of the elements you can find the element ones. Compounds are the ones that are made up of more than one element e.g. CO2 - has carbon and oxygen in.

Hope this helps - it is just what I remember from high school chemistry!!

For the elements, look at your periodic table of elements in your textbook and compare it to your list to find which of the 20 items are elements. That will be a good start for you!

Compounds are simply two or more atoms combined ... so now that you are familiar with elements (from getting your group #1 together) look at your list and see which items are compounds. For example, oxygen gas is a compound, as it is 2 oxygen atoms combined.

Look up the definition in your textbook of mixtures and pure substances, then with the remaining items on your list determine which is which.

Good luck sweetie!
