It could have a respiratory infection or vitamin a deficiency.Mouth breathing is a sign of pneumonia. You need to get it to a vet for treatment with antibiotics and vitamins or you won't have a turtle much longer.

There could be a lot of reasons for this, but the most common problems most keepers have are:
- too small of a tank
- too cool of tmeps
- poor diet

Check out the care sheets for this species at http://www.austinsturtlepage.com and check what you are doing against their recommendations. Most of us find that we've gotten lax on some issue, and a reminder helps us fix things up and get back on track.

Also- this time of year it could be a hibernation urge triggered by the light cycles and temps. To overcome this, you need to offer lighting and temps that trick it into thinking it is still summer.

Have you fed it? if it's a younger turtle it's eyes may have not developed yet so give it some time. Does he have any eye problems before? If he did, you should take him to the vet and let them now what's going on

He's having trouble breathing.
Call around and find a vet who sees exotic animals/reptiles and get him in now.
Reptiles hide illness well, by the time you notice it they are VERY sick.

In the meantime, increase his humidity and heat (don't cook him!)

It may be trying to hibernate. Make sure it has food and some sand to burrow down into.
