First of all, have you had your son diagnosed? Is ADHD the diagnosis? ADHD is often a misdiagnosis for other developmental disabilities.

My son is ADHD. He's something else and for awhile there it was pretty scary. I was afraid he'd burn the house down. You are right to want to get his behaviors under control. Once you have a diagnosis you can try medication. David took it for 2 years and then took himself off. He's 13 now and he's much calmer. By my standards. He still acts like a 13 year old......

Ask the school to help. Go to the guidance counslor and set up counseling for the child. This was down time for my son where one person and one person only listened to what he had to say. After all, he was the one dealing with the ADHD.

Remember that your son does not deal well with transition. Your family is going through transition so his behaviors are going to escalate. Try to maintain his routine: come home, have a snack, finish your homework, have dinner, shower and organize for the next day. And then down time happpens.

You need to get your rest. Try to get him to bed at a regularly scheduled time. ADHD kids run on exhaustion a lot. Set a bedtime and make him go to bed. Allow yourself some down time at night.

See if there is a Big Brothers/Boy Scout program locally. This allows your son interaction with his male peers and adult male role models. It's a time when he can just be with guys. ADHD kids need that male interaction.

My son's behaviors did ease up a lot by the time he got to 8th grade and he only goes to a 15:1 homeroom. All his other classes are mainstream. He gets academic support during the day and at 3 with the after school program. He has to stay after for the academic support. This way homework gets done and it is not my headache.

I hope this helps. Hang in there, they do eventually outgrow the behaviors......

For how old? I know that there is this school type thing called JobCorps. I think it's in San Marcos and I think that it's free.

Oh, please, don't unlove your child this way. Kids have died in those things (if it's what I'm thinking of). There is no such thing as ADHD, in my opinion.
