African Americans are called "black". The dictionary definition defines this word/name as: Often Black americans, of or belonging to a racial group having brown to black skin, esp. one of African origin. African American. Soiled, as from soot; dirty; Evil; wicked; black deeds. Depressing, gloomy, angry sullen, total opposite of white, which is pure. With such a negative definition defining your race, would you want to be called black?

Humans made up the color black or white. What made you think white is pure. You see a lot of woman getting married in white color dress, thus that make 'em pure as a driven snow, hell no. Under normal circumstances, getting married in the color white means you are a virgin, long time ago. Even the most promiscous women wear white when they get married. We are all of the human race, being called white does not make you pure as a driven snow. Adolf Hitler is white, jefferey Damer was white, the columbine killers are white,i'm not putting the white people down. If you are called black, that doesn't have a negative connotation to it,except the person act evil and that doesn't mean you are black or white.
Evil comes in all colors be it white ,green, yellow, purple ,pink or black. Just respect people as you will like to be respected and stop calling black people names. Nobody plan their skin color or race or nationality.Just respect human beings because nobody is better than anybody in this world. Hatemongers respect other human beings because you don't own the world. we came from nowhere and we are going back to nowhere. Remember if you point a finger, the other points right back at you. So stop disrespecting people because of their race and grow up.

Americans/United Statians (since the United States is part of America).
To be fair, they call people who originate from Europe sometimes by their country of origin first hyphenated with American. I'm sure you have heard of Irish-American, Italian-American, German-American, and so forth. It should be equally applied to everyone, or to no one. We can't have inconsistencies, or why not have Australian-Americans (continent, not just the country), South American-Americans (getting silly huh?),
European-Americans, and so on. It gets pretty dumb after a while. Since we're all in the human race, brother for males and sister for females, we could apply to all, regardless of how old they are, or what their race is.

You got it backwards.
Black people are called African-Americans because somebody (whoever you copied your ideas about the meanings of black and white from) decided that being referred to as black was offensive.

It is a tough call. White doesn't always have a connotation that is positive either--it can mean death.
