I'm going trick or treating with a friend of mine, and we're going on horseback. We were wondering what some good halloween costumes would be for a mounted rider? Thanks so much in advance.

We've already discussed saftey issues, and are working with our horses now to get the used to the idea of a floaty costume (dress or cape) and know to be on the lookout for little kids. We just need ideas. :-)

I also wanted to add that we'll be in an area with little kids, so unfortunatly - even though I have a black horse, the headless horseman is out of the question. We don't want to scare kids even more, if they already are afraid of horses.

You could go to your tack store and look for some horse spray paint, white, and paint some spots on your horse in the pattern that is usually found on paint horses or use white shoe polish, and then dress as an Indian, with the head dress and feathers and beads and the moccasins. Tie feathers and beads onto your reins with leather straps, and you could do the same with the feathers and beads in the horses mane and tail. I think that it would be a pretty cute get up:-) But always be careful, one of my boarders was egged last year by some local teens driving around egging trick or treaters. Have Fun!

The Headless Horseman from Sleepy Hollow is what I did one year.

Just put the coat or whatever over your head (maybe a stiff wire "hat" under it to make "shoulders") to make you look headless and attach a plastic hollow pumpkin to the side so you can look like you're carrying "your head".

Another year I did "The Pony Express". This one you can use for other holidays, too, to deliver greeting cards around where you live.

Good Luck, Have FUN and be safe!
Happy Halloween!

Zorro! Lone Ranger! Roy Rogers and Dale Evans! Geronimo!

All characters who were obviously before your time but great mysterious people all the same. Research these famous heros from the 50's and start a new trend!

Great idea to go on horseback!

A bumblebee!!

I, too, have a black horse and have been planning to buy a bunch of yellow vetrap, wrap it around both of us, and go as a bumblebee. And maybe a large, semi-flexible tube, tapered at the end, around the tail to make it into a stinger? :)

Have fun!!

you could be woody from toy story or jessy and say your horses name is bulzeye, or zorro, the loan ranger, dress up as a horse and dress your horse up as a person and be a horse riding a person.or just be a cowboy or girl, go as paul revear, be a jocky-who rides horses in races, maby hopp along cassidy(ask your parents), a train robber, or even an indian.

Lady Godiva
A Knight or wear any type of Renaissance costume
Scarlet O'Hara's daughter (I think she died riding a horse, so this would be a reference that most people probably wouldn't get)
Sybil Ludington (http://www.geocities.com/heartland/plains/1789/sybil.html)
