Well, not all homosexuals are gay. Some of them are downright miserable.

Neither is a term. They're quite new. Self serving. Inaccurate. Homo means man. In Italian it hasn't changed from the original latin: Uomo. The appended 'sexual ' locks it into a deviant sexual connotation exclusive. It's an acquired perversity. Having so called sex with the bodys' main sewage disposal system is the same cause for AIDS. That's also the cause of SARS. Sewage isn't compost. It's lethal. Marat, one of the leading French revolutionaries escaped enemies through the Paris sewers. That's how he contracted an incurable condition. The painting by David ' A Marat ' lying in a tub dead with knife wound is the way he was usually found trying to treat that condition with types of baths. It never worked. Gay use to be a word up until this century that was usually interchangeable with ' merry ' as in merry Christmas. Look around. Is it real? Death. And a horrible one at that. An overpowering denial in most cases right up until the time of death. See anybody happy? There's nothing gay about being ' Gay '.

Homo is Latin for "same," just as Hetero is Latin for "different."
So a homosexual is attracted to the same sex, just as a heterosexual is attracted the opposite/other sex.

You're probably thinking of the term for early humans "homo erectus" which is short for "homonid erectus" - homonid means human, erectus means standing upright.

Maybe it's time to enroll in Latin. ;)

you're a bit confused dear. if you go back and read your link...it says "homo erectus" = upright man. the "homo" part refers to the "man," the "erectus" part refers to being upright. hence, "homosexual" means sex with a man, literally, for the purposes of reproduction. they have taken that term for exclusive use when referring to a gay man, simply due to the "homo" portion of the word. hope this helped!

Homo in reference to homosexual is meaning the same. So homosexual is someone who is sexually attracted to the same sex.

Just as Hetero in heterosexual means the other or differnet. So Heterosexual is someone sexually attrracted to the other or different sex.

The Homo definition you are refering to is for homoerectus meaning upright man.

Homo in homosexual comes from Greek and means same, and homo in homo sapiens comes from Latin and means man (human being). It's as simple as that.

surely homo or homer means man, whereas erectus means upright. Or have I missed something.

HOMO==a combining form appearing in loanwords from Greek, where it meant “same” (homology); on this model, used in the formation of compound words (homomorphic).

HETERO==a combining form meaning “different,” “other,” used in the formation of compound words: heterocyclic.
