I'm sorry to hear of your predicament. I haven't been married or divorced so can't offer suggestions from my own experience.

But if you haven't tried it, I would seek professional help via a therapist who has a lot of experience with divorce. Maybe your divorce lawyer would have suggestions or referals for to get help.
I bet there are books to in the self-help section. And web-sites about this. Here's one :

http://www.sharekids.com/

A testimonial on the page says :

"This is great...I don't have to talk to my ex anymore"

..............

Here's a book :

"Joint Custody with a Jerk"

http://www.amazon.com/Joint-Custody-Jerk-Uncooperative-uncooperative/dp/0312141130

..............

Also, If the kids are getting stuck in the middle of the abuse, I would definitely seek professional help.

Best Wishes

I feel bad for you. I think I would arrange to have his pick-up kids from a neutral place. Try not to have any private dealings with him. Always have some one there. I hope you are talking abusive verbally, not physically.Get some professional help, to help you. Good Luck

You have to go to the police and report it. You also have to go to court and let them know what's going on. You should also install cameras and microphones in your house so you could get proof of the situation. You can't let him abuse you, ever. Also let your family know about the situation and see if they could help you. You could also move but if you have a court order so he could see the kids he could use it against you in court, even accuse you of kidnapping the kids so he couldn't see them. Be careful and good luck with your problem. This man is sick and you have to be careful., because he is not thinking about himself or his children. You have to be careful because he's dangerous. Take good care of yourself and the kids.

The least contact with him the better, so see if you can get the court involved and they can set up someone ( maybe a family member )as a go between, maybe pick kids up at your mom's or you drop them at one of his family members. If you have a lawyer he could help with this. Best of luck

Let him know that if he doesnt curb his abusiveness, you'll seek a restraining order. This may hamper his joint custody. Please be firm about it. So that he knows you're SERIOUS! If he cant be civil to you, ESPECIALLY in front of the boys, seek legal counsel.

Be polite, don't argue with him if you don't have to. By that I mean don't get caught up in an argument about extraneous issues. He's your ex all you have to talk to him about is the kids.

Kidding aside,
sorry sweetie. Tough spot you are in. you could get an order of protection or have him pick them up at a friend or relatives.
