I erase if I have to turn it in, but I do have a few classes in which I just cross out the stuff... If it's just for my own private use, I cross out because I don't like screwing around with the eraser.

If using a pen, it's proper to cross out with a single line. If using a pencil, of course erase.

I cross out things most often. I'm writing a book, and I use a pen. Pencils can be so messy in doing manuscripts. I draw with pencils and ink the final versions.
