It seems to happen because when she sleeps she tends to sweat alot, even if she's not dressed that warm. She is just a sweaty sleeper for some reason. I think also when she breast feeds lying down the milk sometimes falls down the side of her mouth and around her ears.
I gave her a bath every day and am careful to wash behind her ears but it doesn't seem to be helping.
What is something else that I can try?

You should make sure you dry behind her ears very well after her baths and put a little Vaseline on the dry cracked area...lotion or baby oil may really sting. I know if I have cracked hands and use any type of lotion it hurts! I would put the Vaseline on before bed so it has all night to soften and protect her delicate skin. Eucerin and Aquaphor are also great, but I would wait on those until the cracks heal. Good Luck!

you might be washing her too much actually. Babies skin has natural emollients that keep them moisturized and although you do need to keep that area clean, you also need to keep it moisturized. If it is quite chapped I would put a little smear of neosporin ointment behind her ears when she goes down for the night (so she won't bother it) I say neosporin because it is an antibacterial ointment that will help speed the healing process so that the area will not get infected.

When it's not bad you might want to just try a little vaseline or aquaphor at night to form a barrier against her night sweat. This is all over-the-counter stuff.

I have the same problem. I have a 2 month old

When she sleeps take her socks off. She wont sweat as much.

The redness behind her ears and you will now see it under her neck maybe under a fatty pad as I call it ...redness sometimes a weird smell

That is her having very sensitive skin.
So, me I bought Aveeno Baby Wash & Shampoo in one
Works wonders..... then I used the Johnson & Johnson Aloe Vera lotion and put in on lightly..
It has gone .....

It's normal. It's just dead skin that you haven't been cleaning off (since you just noticed it). Scrub it with a cloth to exfoliate during baths. It'll probably get red since there's all raw skin under there now, so you don't have to do it all at one time (you don't want to do it so hard it bleeds or anything). I wouldn't put perfumed lotions on it, but maybe a tiny smear of neosporin on it if it gets red from the scrubbing.

Sounds like your doing well. All three of mine had little rashes behind the ears. Wipe behind her ears, and her neck folds if needed, with a clean damp cloth, no soap, several times a day. Save the soap for bathtime, and mike sure all the soap is gone after the bath. You could also try a small amount of a mild lotion like Aveno.

It seems that it could be a few things. Eczema, cradle cap, or psoriasis. Take her to see a dermatologist or your pediatrician. To keep it clean use a warm damp rag and wash gently behind her ears and where ever else the rash may be.

Try putting a little baby oil (not lotion) behind her ears twice a day. That worked for me.

Try the Aquafer ( i believe that the spelling) moisturizer you can get at walmart or wherever it works wonders in a day or two.
