About a few months ago, I had an abnormal pap smear. Unfortunately, I quit my job while waiting to start a new one, and never was able to go in for the second check up to see why I had an abnormal pap smear. My benefits are just about to kick in, and when they do, I plan to go to the doctor. When I spoke to the nurse when I got the abnormal result she said it could be a few things, I could have cervical cancer, I could have HPV or it could be that the test was messed up and I'm not "abnormal" at all. I've have been getting annual pap smears since I was 15 (I'm 22 now), and I have never had one come back abnormal till now. I just found out that I am approximately 5 weeks pregnant. I am wondering if the possibility of me having either HPV or cervical cancer will in anyway affect my baby or my pregnancy. Does anyone have any experience with this?

I'm 32 weeks pregnant and I *just* found out that my pap test (done at 11 weeks) came back abnormal (I changed obgyns at 24 weeks because my old obgyn would never tell me anything about test results and it was my new doctor that told me about the abnormal test). My doctor said that they would check again after the baby was born because the birth could "wash away" the abnormal cells. I had the same worries that you do, but since my doc wasn't worried, I'm not too worried about it either. Congratualtions!

"Abnormal" pap smears are very, very common. Most of the time an abnormal pap smear just means that the test was somehow messed up. Sometimes it can just be because you had sex too close to the time of your pap smear or had recently used tampons. They will probably just do another pap as well as check you out for various other infections. I wouldn't worry at this point about it. Wait until you have the additional tests done.

Abnormal pap smears don't mean cervical cancer. I have had 2 and was checked for HPV and it came back negative. If you have a yeast infection or an inflammation, it will cause an abnormal pap smear. Just let the OB/GYN know...

I had an abnormal pap smear a few years back, they said it was because they did the test too close to my period (was right after). All sorts of stuff can cause dyplastic cells, not all of them are bad. Are they going to do another one?

when you go to your first pre natal visit they will give you another pap smear. it is routine. abnormal pap could mean many different things. some serious some not. if you have another abnormal result they will send you for more testing and then treatment depends on those results

the only thing you can really do is go to the doctors and find out what is really wrong... if anything. no point in worrying so much if it could be nothing. so go and get the results asap
