We have three children. and we have our own business. I work part time in the business 15-20 hrs per wk at $12 a hr. My husband pays all the house bills except my car bill and repairs and anything personal for me. I have to ask his bookkeeper for a chk for our monthly bills and then before my husband gives me any money he has to see every bill. monthly bills aprox $1100. per month. I'm not happy with this situation.

In other words, you are his employee, both at work and at home, and never his wife. You say the two of you own the business, but it sounds like he owns it and you work for him. If you both owned it, you would be entitled to half the profit (and perhaps you are, but don't exert your right). Your husband is controlling you through your finances and keeping you an emotional and financial captive. If talking to him about why this arrangement doesn't work gets you no where, then I would suggest counseling for the two of you. Your husband obviously does not trust you. You are not a child that should get an allowance, you are an equal to your husband (or should be) and the two of you should share not only your love, but also your resources. If all else fails, then I say you put in your notice and get a new job where you can make your own income.

It sounds as though you have a control freak for a husband. More like he is the master and you are the slave. Remind him firmly that you are his wife and he is your husband...nothing more, and nothing less. Tell him that things will change, because you are going to see to it that it does. Don't ask for permission...demand respect. We are treated just as we allow ourselves to be treated.

What kind of arrangement is this? Have a talk with him and tell this husband of yours that this is unacceptable, and that you want to be treated like his wife.

You should not be happy about it. Ask him for a change or get thee to a marriage counselor.
