They can take a couple of weeks and may be sore for a time. You may find it helps to keep a jug by the loo and rinse the area with clean water after going to the loo to keep the whole area clean.

Putting salt in your bath will help, you can buy salt for this purpose at most supermarkets. This will speed up healing and help recovery.

Now - how long to wait before resuming sex? That's entirely personal, but the medical profession will advise about six weeks after childbirth. I don't want to advise irresponsible action, but I will say from my own experience that they are erring on the side of caution here, and three or four weeks is OK, so long as you feel well and your stitches are completely healed. (Sexual activity could rub your stitches and irritate them, allowing infection to take hold if you don't wait till they are healed).

Have fun - but wait till those stitches have healed properly!

Stitches can take a good few weeks to dissolve (about 4-5 maybe?) but do talk to your doctor if you feel sore as there is medication you can have, also make sure you keep clean and get lots of fresh air to the area, with no pad on if you can for a while every day. Brown blood at this stage is perfectly normal and bleeding can still go on for another few weeks but I think you are over the worse.

Good question. Obviously you will wait as long as your doctor advises. But when my partner gave birth she had a terrible time. Although the stitches were ok and came out ok, it took a long time for us to even attempt sex. (I'm talking about 6 months) and then it was very difficult and we both had to be really careful.

However I do think my partner had a low immune system at the time and therefore it took much longer than usual, she also got a bit of an infection.

I hope it doesn't take any where near this long for you, but my advice is to look after yourself downthere (obvious I know) and take it easy when trying.

Time can vary. If, the area is kept moist they will dissolve faster than if it dry. But, let them do their own thing! Normally they will start breaking down in a week and you can remove the little pieces they will slide out. Just be sure to pull from the knot side. On resuming sex, I not sure. Just look and feel that area. You should be able to tell when it look healed well enough. First time you try just go slow and be careful.

I gave birth almost 11 weeks ago, and I had stitches down there! It hurts a lot. At 7 weeks the last stitch was gone. Sexual activities will be painfull for a while.

The best solution is to gain control over it. As someone already said, stop when you're getting there and relax. Pay more attention to pleasuring your mate--orally, perhaps--and avoid rubbing your penis up against anything while doing so. It will take work on your part and patience on both parts. As a last resort, some antidepressants curb sexual functioning with the intention of learning the pleasure of restraint after which you could taper off them. Here's your goal: the longer you can delay your orgasm, the more intense it will be. So it isn't just a matter of satisfying your mate. This is the main reason some claim stoned sex is better, unlike drunk sex which can leave you unable to perform (brewer's droop). You enjoy exploring each other longer. And remember, oral isn't just one place. It's all over, paying particular attention to kissing, and TALK about what each of you like. Strange how people don't talk about sex when they're the ones doing it.
