I am always reading articles on how they mistreat their employees, underpaying them, do not give them benefits and just recently read that in pennsylvania did not allow workers to take their breaks.

I can understand if the store was in a rural area with no other companies to work for but I see many Walmarts surrounded by so many other places such as supermarkets, fast food and eat in resturaunts, and so much more.

I just want to shout out "DON'T WORK FOR THEM " If conditions are so awful like people have said.

Apparently, from what I have read, there is no future in working for that company so why not find something better with a company that will hire you with the same qualifications?

But if it is a great place to work I would also like to read words in their defense.

Wal-Mart gives jobs to many people who, quite frankly, don't have the skills to get any other job. It is Wal-Mart, fast-food (which pays less) or unemployed.

I get so sick and tired of hearing people complain that Wal-Mart abuses or takes advantage of its employees. Wal-Mart does not force anyone to work there. They work there willingly. It is a job, and it is a start in life. If those employees CHOOSE not to better themselves in any way, it is not Wal-Mart's fault.

Wal-Mart does a tremendous amount of promoting from within. My neighbor (high school degree) started out as a stockman and is now managing an entire store, which means big bucks.

I worked at Wal-Mart for a while when I was in college (about 10 years ago). It is not a difficult job and it is easy to work hard and get noticed. Some of the employees worked real hard and enjoyed themselves, and some just did not care. Many people who left always left for a higher paying job after they got work experience and a good reference. Some just stayed there oblivious to the outside world.

And they forced us to take breaks. We could get in trouble for skipping breaks. So don't let a few managers and stores out of the zillion they own give you an impression of the entire company.

And finally, it is not a sweatshop. If it were a sweatshop, some of the employees would not be strolling around like they all day in the world.

Walmart is the largest retail industry employer in this country. It comes in second in employment behind the federal government. Walmart is also the highest employer of people of color, who are, unfortunately, also statistically considered to be under educated compared to other ethnicities. To many that work at Walmart, it's better to have a job than nothing at all.

My sister-in-law, who is very intelligent but uneducated (not a slam, a fact; she didn't finish high school) works for Wal-Mart and she LOVES it. She must - she took about a year off when she had her last baby, and recently went back to work there.

In my admittedly limited experience with this issue, it seems that most people who complain about working at Wal-Mart have never worked there. Our local Wal-Mart has a lot of people who have been there for some time. I think this is another example of media hype.

Suppose you are given a choice between eating nothing, eating moldy bread, eating bitter lettuce, and an apple.. Oh, but the apple requires you to have a college degree, have special skills, live in a certain area, etc..

These are not college graduates we're talking about. For the most part, Walmart employs people who are simply not qualified for better, higher paying jobs. And they take advantage of this fact by screwing the employees over, knowing they have little choice but to bend over and take it.

Walmart CEOs are money-hungry people taking advantage of uneducated Americans who HAVE to work. Sad thing to see, quality of life getting downgraded for money.

I think it's because they can't get a job any where else. Have u ever noticed all the employees are either half retarded, 100 years old, or 500 lbs? Probably only place that would hire them.
