Arguing over a definition...
Cheerleading and Dance are definitely athletic. However, they don't fit my definition of a proper sport.
One of the ways I define a sport is that the outcome or score is decided by the activity, not by a judge. A high jump is decided by whether the jumped goes over the bar, and the bar doesn't fall. That outcome, and other interpretation (did the wind blow the bar over?) is verified by the referee. However, a cheerleading performance is determine BY the judge or referee.
This definition also nixes gymnastics, diving, bodybuilding, ice skating/dancing, freestyle skiing, part of ski jumping, and rodeo as sports.

OK cheer leading is a spot and so is dance. in cheerleading yes you do cheer for sports but you also compete against other cheerleading squads. you have to be in great shape and workout just like in any other sport you have to be flexible, have muscle and be able to practice hard. some people also take years of gymnastics if there really serious.
in dance it is also the same thing you have to be in great physical condition. their is all kinds of dance. the most difficult is classical ballet. you have to, if your very serious, watch your weight and have a lot of strength in you feet. when ballet dancers go up on their toes it ant easy!!! hope this helps. i do both and it is very hard!!!!!!!!!! oh and not that i have any thing wrong with football players, hokey players or basket ball players but if you put them in dance or ant thing i grantee they would not last more than a month tops!!!!!! oh and have you ever done a round-off back-handspring tuck? did a scorpion in a full excitation? oh and about that person who said something about it being determined by Judges and not how good you are or some crap like well in football you make a touchdown by running as fast as you can from one end of the field to the other with out getting tackled right?because your good right? well in dance and cheerleading people are jugeing you on how GOOD you are.

Yes, it is a sport. or some people say its an excersice.
But my friend has been cheerleading since she was around 9 years old, she had to do so many streches dance movments, jumps and everything. She practice at least 1 hour every single day. now she can run a mile in 6:30. She flips and everything, it is hard.
Just cause they do not have one on one competetions or something does not mean it is not a sport.

confident. i'm a cheerleader and purely because of the fact there is not any longer a scoreboard, does no longer recommend that that's no longer a pastime. we could constantly undergo greater suitable than some human beings in base ball and soccer do too. some human beings might thyink "Oh ya'll purely take a seat there and yell cheers" truthfully, we could constantly pass to competitions and attempt to win them. Dont even say that Im overreacting.reason in case you do, Im going to place YOU interior the air and inform you to do a bow and arrow or a scorpion. I wager a number of you do no longer even understand what those are. confident, i think of-wait, scratch that, i understand that cheerleading is a pastime. playstation , If I sounded recommend, Im no longer attempting to be. Im purely ill of human beings trash conversing cheerleaders. :)

I would say cheerleading and dance are sports. All that sports are physical excercise and cheerleading and dancing is clearly physical since your jumping around and stuff. So ya it is a sport. Maybe many guys would say no but if you think of it it realy is a sport!

Cheerleading is not a sport. Cheerleaders cheer for sports. They are on they sidelines. Dance is an art, not a sport.
I think anything where you get points for "artistic" element is not a sport. If you wear a costume or have routine, it's not a sport.
I'm not disputing cheerleading and dance can be difficult. (Not and cheerleading at the schools I attended, but I willing to agree that there are cheerleaders who have some talent.) But just because it's difficult does not make it a sport. Chess is difficult. Yoga is difficult. They are still not sports.

It 's a sport because it requires athleticism, teamwork, practice and skill. Have you ever tried to either be thrown 15 feet in the air or catch someone thrown fifteen feet in the air. If you had, you'd say it's a sport.
