It's a superstition. One of my best days was Fri the 13th. But then, I'm not superstitious. I had a black cat for almost 18 yrs. Are you worried about opening an umbrella indoors, walking under a ladder? Does Halloween coming up bother you?f so, why?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friday_the_13th
that my friend explains everything and its not that long just takes 1 minute to read.
I personally believe it can be bad luck but I try not to think about it too much. I think Friday 13th is unlucky coz Jesus had 12 disciples (followers) including him it makes 13, the 13th was the one that betrayed him Judas Iscariot. Plus Jesus was nailed to the cross on Friday and rose on a Sunday. I'm not all religious but it makes me think about Friday 13 in some weird way...

I think it's the whole idea of the number being bad luck!
But there are the few ppl like myself who have good luck on Friday 13 - example: I met my fiance of 6 years on Friday - Oct 13, 2000......and we are still together! So the way I see it is what you believe will bring you the bad luck..will...same goes for the good luck. Also - in many Latin American countries it's considered bad luck if the 13th falls on a Tuesday......... who reallly knows eh

Some people believe that because Jesus was the thirteenth Apostle(which wasn't really true), that thirteen is an unlucky number because Jesus was crucified and he was the "thirteenth Apostle". Silly, ain't it? 13 black cats is unlucky, Friday the 13th is unlucky, and 13 floors in a building is unlucky.

There is whole lot of the history on the Urban legends website (see link below). Seems to go back at least to the time of Chaucer and probably long before that.

I don't think 'reverred' is the right term. It is more like scary due to the superstion of it being unlucky.
