The '71 Malibu is considered a "Chevelle". The Malibu SS is also a Chevelle.

All Malibus are Chevelles, all Chevelles are not Malibus.
the malibu is basicly just a trim option. Many people mistakenly think that Chevelle = Malibu, and as such, call all of them Malibus.

No difference really. It wouldn't complain if I had either cars. I used to have a 1971 Malibu. I shouldn't have got raid of it.
