I work in a doctors office and every year we have a pumpkin carving contest, last years winner made a carrige like from cinderella and had a barbie, any ideas that could beat that?

Hi brystal, Looks like you've got your work "carved" out for you. LOL! No pun intended! My suggestion would be to "decorate" your pumpkin without "carving" them. I decorate all my pumpkins IE; with pipe-cleaners, fake eyes (magazine cut-outs), stickers and especially..."GLITTER"! Make your pumpkin/pumpkin's resemble the people in your office. The "funnier" the better! Use a tongue depressor, stethescope, thermomater, scalpel or even "fake blood"! Have Fun and Good Luck! XOXO Moonpie

Draw a map of the world on the roundest pumpkin you can find and do the kind of carving where you only carve away a partial layer and leave the rest whole. Carve all the continents with a partial thickness and when you put a light inside they will stand out from the ocean rind.

i really like the ones that have part of the peel carved away but not all of the pith so that some light shows through in some areas, and lots of light in the totally open areas and no light or very little in the areas where the skin is on, you can do really intricate designs too, i bet you could find some on line . or you could turn one into a goldfish bowl by leaving the skin on the goldfish areas and letting the filtered light be the water, and put a blue bulb in it.
