The Illusionist stars Edward Norton and The Prestige stars Christian Bale. I have seen The Illusionist and it has a love story going on throughout the movie, and some twists involving murder, while The Prestige appears to be more of a action/suspense fare. If it is a date movie you want, take The Illusionist. Try google.com and you will see the difference.

No. The Illusionist stars Edward Norton. The Prestige stars Hugh jackman and Christian Bale. I think they're set in a similar time period but they're different movies.
The Illusionist was very good, by the way.

The Illusionist - (starring Edward Norton, Paul Giamatti, and Jessica Biel ) Director Neil Burger's screen adaptation of Steven Millhauser's short story 'Eisenheim the Illusionist'. Eisenheim (Edward Norton) is a magician in early 1900's Vienna, who falls in love with a woman well above his social standing. When she becomes engaged to a Crown Prince, Eisenheim uses his powers to win her back and undermine the stability of the royal house of Vienna.
The Prestige - (starring Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, and Michael Caine) From acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan, comes a mysterious story of two magicians whose intense rivalry leads them on a life-long battle for supremacy full of obsession, deceit and jealousy with dangerous and deadly consequences. From the time that they first met as young magicians on the rise, Robert Angier and Alfred Borden were competitors. However, their friendly competition evolves into a bitter rivalry making them fierce enemies-for-life and consequently jeopardizing the lives of everyone around them. Full of twists and turns, THE PRESTIGE is set against the backdrop of turn-of-the-century London.
So no, they aren't the same movie. They don't have the same director or the same cast and aren't even set in the same country. The only thing they really have in common is the use of "magic".

The prestige is about a competition between two magicians one of which appears to be the man who taught Houdini the Chinese water torture trick. allias the man in the bottle, alias metamorphosis. This movie is about how it was not trick originally. The pun is that the prestige of doing such a trick drove the man into seclusion as he was afraid to ever repeat the trick. This is good timing having it come out so close to Halloween, the day Houdini died.

No they're not the same. They are both kind of "magic related" but not the same movie.
