If a minor party candidate can get enough support for their ideas, it is possible to get another candidate to include these ideas in their platform. In this way, the minor candidate, and their supporters, can influence laws/policy even if they do not win. They can also agree to support the major party candidate in exchange for getting their ideas included in the major candidate's platform. So, even if the minor party candidate loses, they can still influence lawmaking. Which, unless the candidate is only interested in power, is what running for office is about.

Let's get some more independents in there and shake up the establishment. The two party system is broke, time to fix that.

they might not win but in the last couple of elections they drawed votes away from one of the major parties.(thats how clinton got into office without having a majority vote) but minor parties are important because they critique and bring light to issues that have often been ignored by Republicans and Democrats

Unfortunately for us,the majority of Americans vote in a fashion that's in agreement with your attitude.
