Who knows. they think that the common person has absolute control over the government.

I just watched a PBS show about Europeans and their new attitudes toward Americans. The upshot was that they don't hate the American people, they just hate George Bush and his policies. So many of them said that they hoped the American people would elect someone next time around that wasn't bent on alienating the rest of the world. Maybe the Europeans who ask us about Iraq are just trying to confirm for themselves that it is not the American people who have gone crazy, just their current President.

Why do Americans ask Europeans stupid questions about Europe whenever they're on holidays in America?

they're prolly just trying to make smalltalk, and you know you have a guaranteed conversation starter with that one!

Think of how many times you've talked to a tourist and said, "uh, so what's it like over in (your country)? How's that (whatever happend over there lately) working out for you guys?"
