Virginia (and thus West Virginia) was named for Elizabeth I, the "Virgin Queen" of England while Maryland is named for Queen Henrietta Maria, wife of King Charles I of England.

Virginia (which at one time covered the state we know today as well as West Virginia, a portion of Pennsylvania, Ohio, and, I think, Michigan--quite a chunk of real estate) was so named in honor of Elizabeth I, also called The Virgin Queen because she never married.

how about using both names Eleanora Virginia Eileen or Eleanora Eileen Virginia i like Eleanora Virginia Eileen more.

the queen of england. im not sure if it was queen elisabeth or queen mary, but since it was found when she was still a virgin, the guys named it virginia
