We have Modern art, which is ridiculous. We have people like andy warhol. Where are the modern Michelangelos, Da Vinci's, the ancient Greeks, and the rennaisance artists? Why don't we see any great master works like the ones these people created?

Why do people keep responding with questions of recognition? What does that have to do with the virtue of an artist? If you can find something comparable to Michelangelo's The Pieta, I will concede that I am wrong. However, works such as these do not exist in modern times, nor do artists that create them.

I think you're being a bit too picky. I agree that " modern art" is a bit touchy but you're comparing "the great ones" to modern times. What they did was unbelievable. To do that now is copying (There are some of us that have "borrowed" a bit from them.)

There are alot of people that do that level and most of them are unheard of. They may not paint, some of them draw. I've seen sidewalk artists that are unbelievable and yeah I'd put them up there.

Part of it is you have to look at the culture that the art comes from. You still see that level in Europe but in the States let's face it, if it's not trendy and "artsy" you can forget about it. Most "artists" I know do Modern art. In my opinion I think it's because they can't do, nor inspire to be on a level like da Vinci. They have it drilled into their brains that anything can be art and it's a lazy way to be. When the board you mix paints on brings in more cash than something you actually painted you'd think you'd have a clue!

To get to that level takes talent and commitment most people can't handle. When Bob Ross is considered a master in some circles you know there's a problem.

Actually, I think there are plenty of great artists out there, but because we are in the time that they exist, we won't recognize them as great because no one else does. The Modern Art movement is so yesterday. There's something else going on now. Renaissance is an awakening. If you take into consideration all that's happened to advance technology in the last 70 years alone, you have to figure that art will change too. There is so much going on in the world right now that will influence great art. It's just a matter of time.

How can you justify the statement that modern art is ridiculas. andy warhol was a product of his genetic makeup,he used the skills that enabled him to bring art off its high status to the street, you may not appreciate his images but fot the art movement we are a lesser place without him.
do you believe michael angelo, da vinci, rennaisance artist were the only ones look past to thier masters, who inspired those of that time,
all artist recognize the value of looking at the art of history to inspire for the future, we have a saying that goes,''all art has been done before, its just not been done by me''.

we have truly gifted artists who work with modern materials and mediums, that reflect the society that they live in,do you believe da vinci, rembradt, vangogh, would have not used lasers, power tools, cameras, videos, spray cans, ect ect,had they been available to them in thier time.

''art is not what you see it is the thing you make other people see''
degas. regards LF

Well, the art world is slightly wider than what you seem to believe.
Although it is obvious that Warhol is not to your taste, bear in mind that there are hundred of thousands of other artists (including living artists) whose work you might like.
Remember that the media's main purpose is to sell paper. For this reason, they often have to bank on shock value and promote new shockers all the time, often, sadly, regardless of their artistic merit (or lack of!)
Still, you shouldn't feel discouraged. It sounds like you know what you like, so look for it, collect it if you can afford it and promote it whenever you can.... That's what art is all about, isn't it?
Best,
f.

I think your question is based on a false premise. Remember how Van Gogh died, not recognized for his talent?

I would suggest there are great artists among us, but it will take the passage of years for us (or others) to be aware who they are.

Style also changes over time. Art is not a static thing, it is shaped by the times and the cultural influences of the moment.

First of all this is the world of business, and wen we say business, naturally there comes competition. wen we say Competition, there comes time...
we are living in a commercial world and the Time factor has become much important..
so people cant wait longer.. more over the development in print media has brought down the art field and switch to photography which is less time consuming!
Still there are some gud artists...

you obviously don't know much about art history, do you? these artists were not glorified in their day as what they are today.

anyhow, you have to study art history to understand what is going on. if you studied the art from 1900- the present in depth, you would see the reasoning in why we are where we are. and who is to say there are not any great master works today? they haven't died yet...(joke) and anyhow, it takes a while for everyone to look back and for everything to take shape.

Many of those artists copied what they saw. Their goal was to make something as realistic as possible. We have camera's today to preserve the images we see. Art should now be used to create what we can't see, that's why modern/abstract art is so great.

Because you aren't looking - maybe you should stop watching tv or put down the Maxim, because there are so many great artists out there.
