Can you start with a secondary role where you sing with others.
Then work your way into singing with the others in a group but you are the lead. Then, everyone will see (hear) that you are indeed a good singer and your confidence will build. Shyness is due to the fact that you fear being a failure. Anyone can have a bad day and if you have a bad day singing and don't get the response you expect, it will make you want to withdraw. If you can, sing where no one knows you like at a community production, If you mess up, so what, you are having fun. It will give you stage confidence too.

Really, the best thing you can do is just believe that you have a great voice and go for it. I mean, that staring at the wall stuff may work, but it wouldn't make you look like a great performer. The audience wants you to make eye contact with them, don't just stare off. It makes you look even more nervous than you really are. So just keep telling yourself "I can do this, I can do this." Then, when it's over, you'll feel soooooooooooooooooo much better. Believe me, cuz I have the same prob when it comes to dancing.

as with a lot of things in this field, the best way to get over it is to do it, and get used to the feeling of singing in front of people. lot's of people start off in the same way you are, shy about singing, Jimmy Hendrix would not sing unless he was sure no one in the studio could see him,
Ella Fitzgerald used to have massive panic attacks before she got on stage,
try going to a Kareoke bar once in a while and singing there, that might help

Ok this is to do with what you think about you i think. Have a really good think about what you really feel about yourself. do you believe in yourself? do you like who you are? listen to that little voice in your head - is it saying you great or your not great? People who believe in themselves do not care what other people think and therefore are not shy. Good luck with your talent. im sure you'll be a huge star some day!

Whenever you sing don't look at people's faces. Just look at the wall or something so you don't have to see that everyone is listening. Then pretend no one is there. Hope this helps.
