My son is 8 months old. He has a thing for paper. He loves to put it in his mouth & eat it. The thing that suck is then he'll choke on it!
I only let that happen once! Now when ever i read a magazine, mail anything paper AT ALL. he gets so mad at me for not letting him have it.
Any suggestions on what I can do or give him?

Thanks

He probably really likes the noise the paper makes when it crinkles and tears. If he is eating and choking on it, letting him go to town and tear away isn't an option unless you are right in front of him. When I taught infants and 1 year olds, they also LOVED paper...I would laminate pages from interesting books and magazines then hook then together in the corner with an o ring. Completely chewable and non chokable! They all felt like big kids with magazines and books like the teachers. I also did this for my son and it worked out wonderfully!!! You can get a roll of clear contact paper at Wal-mart for a few dollars to laminate with. I am sure your son will love his mommy made books!

There are stuffed toys that have a crackly noise similar to paper - BabiesRUs has some. I would buy him one and don't let him have the paper until he is older. If he gets hold of it, calmly and firmly tell him that paper does not go in the mouth and take it away from him and distract him with another toy he likes. It is ok for him to get a little upset, and hopefully with the distraction it will be a short tantrum.

Your child is only 8 months old, so you need to be the adult. Don't worry about him loving paper and if you have it, get made. The best thing is keep paper high up, no matter what kind of paper it is. Over the months, he should develop into an older baby and shouldn't crave over paper. Trust me, because you will need to do actions now, before it's too late.

I know what you mean. My 12 month old would rather have paper or a plastic 20 oz. plastic coke bottle than his toys most of the time. I let him play with the paper until he starts to tear it and put it in his mouth. It's hard to keep all of it put up and away.

Let him play with it!

The chances of him actually choking on a piece of paper is so extremely slim that it is virtually non-existent. First of all, if he sucks in, most of the air will just fly by the paper. Secondly, even if he did get it stuck in his windpipe, his saliva would desolve it so quickly that you'd hardly notice.

Kids LOVE paper! I have found they especially LOVE magazines. The colors there are great, and the slippery paper is a fun texture for them to feel.

All of the kids I have known (my own, my nieces & nephews, my friends' kids) have played with magazines, and all of them have lived thru it.

Trust me, he's gonna do a lot of things in his life that are much more dangerous than this...pick your battles, Mom! Let go of the little things!

Somewhere there is going to be something he likes better than that yummy paper!
Pots and spoon? (noisey)
Toys that crinkle?
Try looking in the pet shop for safe toys, in my opinion if it can withstand a puppy, it can hold up to a toddler!
All three of my kids had the same rubber hamburger... cleaned, of course! It has been around 10 years now and is retired, but you get the idea!

in simple terms keep a watch on him and make optimistic he would not positioned top in his mouth. My twins love twiddling with toddler wipe packets I enable them to in basic terms whilst i'm sitting next to them incase they put in mouth.

Babies will put EVERYTHING in their mouths! Buy him a couple of those soft baby books and only give them to him when you are reading, and he'll think he is too. They are made to chew on for babies.

In my 4th grade class, and boy always ate paper. It did not affect him, but if you feel so strongly about him eating paper, entertain him with thin baby toys. Or, you could slice the paper into small pieces and feed it to him. That would work! Wish You Luck!

Your only being a good parent so keep it away from him. This is just a stage he'll get over it.
