Well I've seen in some places that they do work, and in others they just don't maybe it's the type of plastic owl, like if it looks believeable or something?Or maybe you should get like one with a motion sensor to make noise so that it does work in scaring the crows away???? You never know until you try I guess.

Crows are WAY too smart for that!
I had a crow that I adopted as a baby, and he learned to talk and open latches. He also managed to befriend the cat and my Bantam Hen! I don't think any Crow is dumb enough to fall for a plastic Owl!
Crows are not effected by scarecrows either!
Try fire crackers if you have a large garden to protect!

our plastic owl is a very friendly chap.......he must be.....he hasn't scared anything, [other than my hubbie's drunk buddy one night, but thats another story]. anyway the crows, jays, woodpeckers, they all sit on the owl's head and check out the neighbourhood.
lee valley hardware has a roll of ribbon that you can cut and tie onto whatever you wanna keep the crows from and the sun hitting it fluttering in the breeze keeps them away. its about eight bucks for a long, long, long roll!
there are new owls available now that have moving heads, perhaps they would work for you, but i wouldn't count on it.......crows are pretty darn smart!

For about 15 minutes, then they realize they're harmless. I've seen birds sitting next to the fake owls after a while.

it worked for me. it also kept the squirrels out of my koi pond and discourages snakes, mice and other little delicacies of the predator birds. if there is a way to do this try putting yellow xmas lites in the eyes of your plastic predator it looks neat and gets lots of interesting reactions from unsuspecting visitors too!
