I'm helping my 14 year-old give a halloween party this year and I want to know what we can do to make it great. We have some really fun games planned, and some cool ideas for food/snacks, but we want this party to be more than the usual. Also, my daughter wants to give out first, second, and third place prizes for costumes and have the guests choose who wins. Do you think this is an OK idea? I don't want anyone to feel left out becuase of what they can or cannot get for their costume.

I would recommend a scavenger hunt of some kind. Break people up into teams with different sets of hints things to look for and see who can get finished first. Maybe get some friends or neighbors or even some parents (without kids knowledge) to help out by dressing up and coming out of places to scare them. As for the costume contest, I dont see why it should be a problem. Maybe just make 3 ribbons for the top winners but give everyone a small goodie bag for having a creative costume!

A blind-fold haunted house. Use the garage or other large room take each kid in one at a time (blindfolded) Without your eyes the imagination goes wild. Heres what you use sounds, touch and smell,1: sound effects, haunted house sounds tape, 2: a piece of liver for a werewolf's tongue, 3: a bowl of chicken or turkey guts for what else GUTS (if left out for a while they will smell bad like dead body's sort of close anyways), 4: take a large piece of cauliflower and cook it til it softens a little, put some cooking oil on it to make it feel slimie and it will feel like a brain. Also a small fan (hand held) and a plate of ice cubes for a cold wind of a ghost. You get the idea, that's all I remember from when I was 14 and the people next door had a blindfolded haunted house, oh and most important a good haunted house story to tell as you walk them through it, that's very important to set the mood. I am sure there are some other good ideas you can come up with. It scared me when I was 14 and it was cool. I hope this helps make your party one that gets talked about.

detect a huge hall, like a church reception hall or a health club, get 3 of your closest acquaintances mutually to grant help to set all of it up, and throw a Halloween prom. actual set it up like a real prom, yet rather of formal positioned on, it quite is costumes. Couples image area, Halloween-themed streamers, your DJ is an iPod with amazing Halloween tunes hooked as much as a super stereo, punch, cupcakes and a few form of normal-to-make dish that feeds a collection of human beings (like ziti).
