I believe what you are looking for is how to motivate employees. The answer will vary according to the type of profession.

The basic motivating factors are:
job security,
sympathetic help with personal problems,
personal loyalty to employees,
interesting work,
good working conditions,
tactful discipline,
good wages,
promotions and growth in the organization,
feeling of being in on things, and
full appreciation of work done.

For hourly employees, they are worry about having a steady income so that there will be food on the table. At this level, people are concerned with survival.

In the professional level, increasingly the "emotional" factors becoming more important. Employees want to be seen, heard and appreciated.
