No doubt about it my friend. Those people who say that, will either learn this is the case, or will stop playing.
The team I was on last year was not nearly as good as this year, but the goalie was much, much better. Result? Our team this year has a worse record.
As you go up in age and talent i becomes more and more apparent. Just look at the nhl, no goalie, no cup.

The Most Important? No. Important, even really Important? Yeah. To the comment about without a goalie you don't have a chance, not quite. With only a goalie you couldn't score and they can't do it alone either. I would say a defense man, or two way forward would be proably the MOST important. It is their job to make it so the goalie doesn't HAVE to be the most important.

Yeah, especially if your team has a bad defense. I think goalies are the most important player on the team in the playoffs. Even one mistake can be costly in the playoffs. There's a lot more pressure on the goalie and he's always the first one to be blamed after losing.

Absolutely! There is an imbalance in the NHL, right now. The goalies are bigger and better than ever. The NHL needs to make a HUGE move and make the nets a little bigger. 6'4" goalies are becoming the norm. Adjust the nets to recognize today's athletes. (Baseball lowered the mound when hardly anyone was hitting even .300 40 years ago)

well, you're right, goalies are VERY important. but to say the most important?? i don't know, i think all the players in a a team are equal to each other. where would a team be if they only had a goalie and no wingers?? we wingers are very important too! you wouldn't have a chance at scoring/ winning without wingers. and without defence it would be a very rough game on both the goalie and the wingers, a team would have very little chance then as well, so you also need defence...
see what i mean? you need all the players, so all the players are equally important to each other!

My son is a travel goalie.. we just switched teams this season, and the word that got back to me via the other player's parents was one of elation that my son chose their team.. the collective message was 'now we have a good goalie, now we have a chance." and they are eleven year olds.. they know the importance of someone who can change the momentum of a game.. four days ago, he stopped a two-on-none break away after the puck carry sent the puck to the other side and Stu exploded to the other side of the net to stop the puck.. he then cleared it out to a trailing defenseman who fed it to a forward and we scored.. Conversley.. a bad goal (and he has had his share, like any goalie) can break the back of a team fighting for a point.. or a win..

Definitely!! The goalie is the last line of defense. A great goalie can carry a so-so team a long way.

Who are these "most people" you are talking to?
Even a casual hockey fan knows the importance of a goalie.

Yes an No. You have to have a good D in front of him. The best goalie can let in 20 goals if the D sucks. I would say it is the bigger position but they have to go hand in hand.
