Chuckle, well, if it IS, then I must be a very wise fellow indeed! The Dephic Oracle said Socrates was the wisest of all the Greeks, because he alone of them all realized that he knew nothing.

I used to have a game I'd play when I was bored. I would try to think of a tricky question that wouldn't be easy to answer. I'd ask the question (a different one depending on who I was asking) and then watch their face. Within a matter of seconds, this is what I would see: Hesitation, unsureness and then a little light bulb going off and they would blurt out an answer. I mean at first they wouldn't know. It was written all over their faces. Then they would use the wonderful tool between their ears, their brains, to PROVE AN ANSWER THAT IT ONLY TOOK THEM SECONDS TO FORMULATE. Wild horses would not dissuade them from their stand, nor would they even remember that they didn't have that answer before it was simultaneously asked and answered.
I think the wisest thing a person can say is: That's a good question, I don't know, let me get back to you on it while I think it over.

I would say yes it is. By saying " I don`t know " says alot about a person. For example you ask a question to someone and that person doesn`t know the answer. Wouldn`t you have more respect for that person if they would say I don`t know than make up some kind of answer for fear of looking dumb. To me there is not as much shame in not knowing as there is in giving a made up answer and being found out. This way when you do find out you can tell the other person than you`ll both know.

A wise person seldom has much to say...but what they say is always worth listening to. Humility be the main virtue. No person can know everything. Your question would be better phrased with out the work "wise". I you had said intelligent or logical, would make much more sense. As wisdom and intelligence are not synonyms.

No. Its not wise at all, no one should ever be satisfied at merely understanding their own ignorance. The quest for knowledge is still noble even knowing knowledge will never be perfect and it will be skewed by your experience as a human. To be wise in human affairs and things human is still possible and if you meet someone who is truly wise you will find they will have much much more to say than "I don't know."

Indeed that is a very wise answer when you don't know. But, you know more than you give yourself credit for. So even wiser, go within and find your answers. Understand, that they are your answers and may not apply to others. Instead you could say well, my truth is.... and fill in your own blanks.
There are some spiritual techniques for finding your answers. If you would like more information, please feel free to E-mail me.

He is just honest that he doesn't know the answer, He is not covering his lack of knowledge about a certain question. I think honesty is a sign of intelligence. Having a lot of knowledge doesn't mean a proof of being intelligent. Intelligence manifests by understanding that knowledge is limited.
