Mathew 5:27

27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:

28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
------------------------------------------------------------

All these answers were opinion, but none referred to the Bible. According to the Word of Christ, a husband has no right to lust for another women. In other words, adultery begins in the mind and before sex and masterbation. Sex and masterbation are just the fruits of adultery.

When I was (past tense) a member of the Catholic church I recall that when you did "touch yourself down there" is was a venial sin; not a mortal sin. You still had to go to confession and tell the priest how many times you jerked off and even the number of times you had "impure thoughts". I always wondered how honest the priests were during their confessions.

I am no religious expert but that is the only religion I am aware of that considers it a sin. And hey...guys are guys. And no, the religion I converted to 16 years ago has never asked me that question.

As a Catholic, I would say that masturbation is a grave sin. Masturbation, along with lust, fornification, pornography and prostitution are offenses against chastity in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

Here's the text of the teaching:

By masturbation is to be understood the deliberate stimulation of the genital organs in order to derive sexual pleasure. "Both the Magisterium of the Church, in the course of a constant tradition, and the moral sense of the faithful have been in no doubt and have firmly maintained that masturbation is an intrinsically and gravely disordered action."138 "The deliberate use of the sexual faculty, for whatever reason, outside of marriage is essentially contrary to its purpose." For here sexual pleasure is sought outside of "the sexual relationship which is demanded by the moral order and in which the total meaning of mutual self-giving and human procreation in the context of true love is achieved."139

To form an equitable judgment about the subjects' moral responsibility and to guide pastoral action, one must take into account the affective immaturity, force of acquired habit, conditions of anxiety, or other psychological or social factors that can lessen, if not even reduce to a minimum, moral culpability.

Well, I did have a funny reply, but since you want an honest answer I will give one. No. I don't believe it is a sin against God. It seems like an appropriate release since one is not supposed to have sex until marriage. I don't think masturbation falls into the category of a carnal sin.

If you're looking for imperical data from church people, the answer will probably be yes.

If you're looking for a personal answer, I think you should talk to your God. If you feel guilty, do your best not to partake in that activity. If you come to the conclusion that you were created by a loving God who knows your weaknesses (like the rest of humanity), do what you need to do.

Most folks do this at one time or another. In my view it is not a sin. Excess in masturbation or many other activities is probably not in ones best interest. Below is an ample supply of information on the topic. If one does not help them selves, who will?

Masterbation is a very normal thing. Why would God create us as sexual creatures and make it a sin?
As with everything in life there are approiate times and places for the activity.

Normal. Please disregard Nebby's theology lesson.I think there are graver sins in the world than masturbating. I really don't think we needed Roman Catholic Law cited here. After all what paragraph are you going to cite for priests molesting kids
