It's not for me. I have an easier time being real in person. When I'm doing it over the net the sensitive people get really offended and I get a violation notice.

Well, if the other person is hostile or doesn't approve of who you are, you can always change your email address, block them, get a new IM handle, or otherwise disappear. You can be as open as you choose, and there are no consequences -- at least no permanent ones, anyway.
Real life isn't that simple. Insult someone or make them angry, and they can punch your lights out, harass you, or otherwise make your life rough. Be too wild and crazy, and you can lose your job, your spouse, and/or your reputation.
The Internet makes it a lot easier to indulge all parts of your personality, not just the socially acceptable ones.

Many people are afraid to be themself, they are Insecure and such.
Some people make up who they are and are not on the computer, you can be what ever you want to be for Instance you can tell people that you are older then what you are or you have a career that you really dont.
Thats what I believe Is easier then being truthfull, many people out of fear put themself In a box and should not because there are some beautiful people out there that dont really like themselfs and they should and I love to encourage them and pray for them,I hope this answer helps you.

Considering that
"wisdom is APPLIED knowledge"
maybe we are like children
on the road to wisdom
in that we are learning HOW
TO apply our knowledge, and that
"via the net" is a stepping-stone to "in-person"

I think that people are a different kind of 'real' ovet the 'net because questions are thought out. Answers are considered. Also you can really be as phoney as they want ...you don't know for sure.

Three words:
Fear of rejection.
It's much easier to be open and transparent when you're not really talking face to face. You don't care as much what their real reaction is, what their body language, facial response, etc. You'll type exactly what's on your mind, thank you very much, and to hell if they don't like it.
But face-to-face, in the real world, we all DO care what others think. And we want people to like us, to be thought well of, and don't want to be rejected by others.
HTH. Best to you.

Its not. Quite the opposite. Read the nasty things written here by people who would cower and wet themselve if they were confronted in person by the the people they insult.

Isn't it obvious? The net is anonymous. No one can see you, hear you or respond to you unless you allow it.

I would say they're hiding behind the internet, especially the nasty ones.
