Each person was listening to Darrell share about the life of his daughter, Rachel, and the shooting at Columbine High School. The students sitting in the room were around the same age as Rachel. They felt the impact of the tragedy the hardest. Both Rachel and her killer desired to start a chain reaction. She wanted to positively affect the world for Christ and he wanted to start a rampage of killing and evil. Darrell's challenge centered around starting a chain reaction of love and kindness.
Darrell encouraged Cal Poly students to follow Rachel's example and to make an impact for Christ even if it meant sacrificing something to do it. Rachel paid the ultimate price with her life. She once traced a picture of her own hand, writing, "These hands will touch millions of people one day!"
