The gas pump is interior the tank. maximum Escorts have an get entry to cover on the passenger area under the rear seat to get to the gas pump. Beats the heck out of dropping the tank, believe me!

Inside the gas tank, pull up the carpet right above it and hopefully you'll have an inspection hole. Otherwise you have to drop the tank.
If you need a fuel pump and you dont buy the whole sending unit you'll have to remove and dissasemble the gas gauge and fuel line bung to replace the pump motor.
