I bought Mucinex D from Walgreens, but I had to show my license. My information from my license was typed in on the computer. Will I be tracked or what, would I get in trouble with the law? I would understand if I bought in bulk, but I don't.

Every time you get that kind of a drug, they will ask for your driver's license. Not just once but every single time.....

I haven't read any of your answers but this has happened to me. The reason is, there are some people that purchase certain types of over the counter drugs, and they make illegal drugs from them.

It has nothing to do with you. If you were a person that put these drugs together, then it would show on there computer that you have purchased numerous amounts of the one drug or that one drug.

It is only to cut down on the drug traffic. They have taken a lot of the meds off the shelf especially cough medicene because there is something in that medicene people use to make something else. You have to take a piece of paper to the pharmacy and they they dispense it to the consumer.

It may seem rather rude to ask for your license and type all your information in the computer but it is a good thing. Has nothing to do with you personally.

That is the type of over the counter medication that must be tracked by law, That practice for Mucinex started about 8 month ago. Because a compound in that drug can be separated and used in the production of meth amphetamines. They want to know who is buying how much.

Products with a certain antihistamine like Mucinex D are controlled now by the Food and Drug Admin. Everytime you purchase a produt containing that certain drug you have to show your license. Your purchases are tracked and you can only buy that product every so often. If you try like tomorrow or next week they can not by law sell it to you. People who cook and make Meth use the products like Mucinex D to make Meth thus the FDA had to step in and control the selling and purchasing.

You aren't going to be in trouble, its just the law now.

Sorry it scared you, it scared me when I had to buy some too!

You where b/c it could contain Sudifederine. )I'm saying could b/c I'm not sure if it does..I see it on an end display -where everyone and anyone can buy it if your 18.) If it contains sud., then you would of had to buy it behind the Pharmacy counter.A product that is used to make meth with. I bought Claritan D (I bought this from behind the counter)and had to show my id too. The purpose of the id is to make sure your 18 to buy it and should you get busted for making meth and find that you bought Mucinex or a product that contains Sud., they can track down who sold it to you and find out if that clerk id you or not.. It's for the safety of all of us when they id us for certain over the counter med's.

Because it contains pseudoephedrine in it. Thank the government for doing this on there war on drugs. They think making certain ingredients harder to get is going to stop the meth cookers in the nation.

By having to show you ID like that they are keeping track of your purchases. You won't get in trouble buying it in normal amounts. But if you were going out buying cases of it I'm sure your name would be flagged and you would be having some visitors coming over to check you out.

It's to make sure your not buying in bulk. You have to be 17 in most states, and you can't buy more then 1 package. They keep track and see if they find a pattern in your bying, If you buy three boxes a day from different stores they can track you down through your DL. It's no big deal if you buy it everyonce in a while.

Probably to make sure your not buying one pack from that walgreens to turn around and hit up every pharmacy in the city for another pack... does it have the ingredient in it that they use in Crystal Meth? Its a decongestant.... im sure you know the rest of the story... but thats my guess!

This is now a Federal Law that any medication containing products that can create methamphetamines must be restricted and anyone purchasing it must produce a picture ID and have information logged on them. One item can be purchased a day and 3 total in a month, if I am not mistaken. This is being done anywhere you go now, so be prepared to give your ID. Your information is kept confidential, unless there is a reason the authorities have to get involved.

PLEASE NOTE: DO NOT GET PISSED OFF AT THE CLERK DOING THEIR JOB. THEY ARE NOT BEING JERKS, THEY ARE FOLLOWING THE LAW. THEY CAN BE FIRED OR POSSIBLY WORSE IF THEY DO NOT ABIDE BY THIS LAW.
So please have patience if you plan to purchase these items and have your PHOTO ID ready. Thank you :)

You had to show your license because it is a law now that they check them to make sure you are that certain age that you can buy that stuff. I think the age is either 18 or 21. But they have to check it just to make sure for safety.

Yes, you are tracked. The "D" is the same ingredient as in Sudafed and it is really abused. They just want to make sure you don't buy a lot of it. You're fine.
