She should try a lactation consultant first to see if there is a different position or something that will help with the breastfeeding. Doctors may be great for encouraging breastfeeding, but they don't always offer the suggestions to foster it. Have her check the La Leche League website for someone in her area.
As to the formula, I've heard that Similac causes less gas and has more DHA/ARA but the Enfamil is a lot easier to mix if you use the powder form.

If she can afford the expensive ones I guess they are best, but if not I would use nestles good start supreme with dha and ara. Tell her to put a small amount of Karo syrup in the bottle to keep her baby regular! Some people will say dont do it, but I did it at the advice of my pediatricians with all three of my children.

The Nestlea Good Start Supreme is great. If she's breast feeding she doesn't need to worry about the LIPIL (the pediatrician told me that). Goats milk is also an option. Otherwise she could just pump and give the baby a bottle. (I didn't understand if you mean she can't actually breastfeed, or just can't produce milk).

The best formula is what suits your baby. I had my son on 3 different kinds before I found one that agreed with him and the first was enfamil and he had projectile vomiting and finally I tried isomil with the advice of my doctor and it was a cheaper kind and he did really good on it

I dont know which one is the best, My baby was on enfamil with iron at first and vomited all the time and also projectile vomited, ive since switched her over to good start and the projectile vomiting and the normal vomiting is gone. So id recommend that because I believe it is easiest to digest.

She really needs to get a second opinion about the formula. Its hard to say which formula would be best for her baby, but I would definitly recommend an organic one.

With both of my children I breastfed and suplimented with Good Start Supreme with DHA and ARA and iron. The DHA and ARA are what is actually in breastmilk so it helps baby be healthy.

I always had the best luck with the Carnation Good Start formula.. All the other ones gave my kids screaming cramps and constipated them.
