Features that I'm looking for: resume/bookmarking WITHIN tracks; very fast fast-foward; fast-forward/rewind control that doesn't easily skip to the end or beginning of a track, etc.

I would suggest an Ipod. It has a decent battery life and it's easy to fast forward or rewind. As for bookmarking you can turn off the ipod and when you turn it back on it will be at the place you ended at. But if you were to recharge the ipod when you had a song paused it will not keep the spot there. You can also view a listing of the tracks to skip through chapters and stuff like that.

ehh. the zen vision m is better. for one it has about 20 bookmarks you cn make. th eipod only lets you one. the zen vision m also has better sound quality
