I've never done it, but I've seen it done on tv.
Don't get too close to lava flow
wear gas masks
have heat resistant clothing
use a buddy system - with ropes, etc.

wear a complete body temparature and burn proof sute and use ropes, come with someone else and tie them together with u so u dont fall in or somthing.
