I would check the solenoid first. Have someone turn the key while you listen and if you hear a click, it's the starter. No click means the solenoid.

Could be a dead starter. heve someone tap the starter with a small hammer and then turn the key to the start position and try to start it. It it works, then your starter is on the way out. Also with the key power on, check with a test lite to see if you get power to the starter. If you do then the starter is bad. Put a volt meter across the terminals of the battery. It should read 12.5 volts. If it is under 12 volts, then see if you can recharge the battery and then try the starter. If it starts, then you either have a bad battery or possibly the alternator is not recharging the battery. If the car starts, put a volt meter across the battery terminals again, it should read about 14volts. If less than 14, replace the alternator. Make sure the belt is tight too.
good luck

If it makes no sound at all, other than a slight clicking noise, then it's the starter. If it actually makes a sound like it's trying to turn over, then it's something else, but probably not the battery.

It will turn on, but I don't think it's the battery. Wow. I am not going to tell you how hard I laughed at you, but seriously.
It's your starter(electric motor that gets the gas one going) or your starter selanoid(sort of transistor/transformer, if you would) if it won't turn over. If it doesn't catch, then you're in a whole different ballgame. One that you want to run from. As in drag to junkyard.

could be dirty terminals
could be a loose or bad ground wire coming off the negative cable, or the hot wire coming off the positive cable.
try cleaning the terminals first. Sometimes that will prevent the battery from getting a good charge, and giving you a good connection.

,You have not said if you drove the car there and the problem occurred but I have decided to give you some pointers, you should find your power source ,verify if you have good power to the starter and check if you have a loose solenoid wire, sine I would assume that this problem has occurred suddenly ,if my hunch is right I suggest that you look in a power source failure, broken fuse or loose or disconnected wire, good luck

find the starter and bang it with a hammer(seriously) that should get it going. Once you get it going dont turn it off until you get to the auto shop. its definitely your starter. You might have to bang it several times. It happened to me before when i owned a mazda protege

Try starting with the gear shift in nuetral. Sometimes the nuetral switch goes awry.

If you're not getting any engine sounds, as in it's not even trying, about 99% chance it's your starter.
