Don't listen to those people that say you're wrong and should fid a job you enjoy- no job is enjoyable (unless sucking capitalist **** is your idea of fun), unless you're really lucky or a total wanker you'll never get your fair share of the profits.
Don't waste your time improving yourself either, your thoughts are impecably right as long as they are your own.
The governments of this world hate dropouts that are happy, it shows everybody else that you don't need work 50 hours a week and earn wallmart or tesco's(american or british?) or whoever money by being a miserable slave on minimum wage.
F U C K SOCIAL PRESSURE!
POWER TO THE LOSERDROPOUTFREAK!!
I should add that I'm working in a shitty retail job myself for the benefit of those nobs that say "you just have to get on with it", "that's the way the world works", "well they're in buissiness to make money", "i don't see why I should pay your dole money out of my taxes" and other crap like that. Those peoples' votes have obviously been recognised and they are represented in parliament (I have never been represented, my votes have never counted due to a lack of democracy in the U.K.)
They don't believe it's right to drop out of society, because they are the fools who made society how it is now.

I was recently thinking the same about work as you are now. With the exception that I don't mind working hard as long as it makes me money. I was really unhappy at work (a big corporation) where working harder meant no extra income for me just to share holders. Unfortunately my unhappiness was spilling over onto the rest of my life and I felt lost and I was far from content. I then hit upon the idea of starting a small business with something I've got a real interest in. I'm just starting out and still in the same job 9-5 until I get the business going, but I feel much happier at work and at home. You just need to find something you've got passion about and then everything clicks into place. Sort of like Bruce Willis finding out he was a super hero in the film Unbreakable.

Try going part time, in a basic job. Nothing that involves responsibility, 2 days of work a week pays better than the dole and you'll probably get bored with all that time on your hands before long.
Get tired of people that think this is a sick choice, last time I checked we were free people allowed to make our own choices, but some ***-licking jobsworth fascist Tories don't like this, and they have advertised the fact its wrong so well that many people actually believe it!!!
I would consider that option, as a date entry keyer or something. Summit easy that will stop you getting bored, and keep you a fair bit better than the dole will.

Here's the trick - do what you enjoy.
I've got ADD in a bad way, I'm as distracted as a crow in a jewelry store. I'm bad with time and I bore easy. I've hated, hated, hated every job I've ever had. Except for this one.
I'm a television producer/animator. I get to learn new things every day and I get to draw, listen to music, come up with pie in the sky ideas and damn near come and go as I please. And I love it. It's a perfect match for me. And because I love what I do, it's never hard for me to get up and go to work and sometimes I stay late because I didn't realize that the time had flown so. And the cool part is that I can buy stuff I want because I do what I want to do.
It's not easy getting the job you love. I got this job through networking through people from a job I hated. And it took me a long time to find out what it was I wanted, but I only got that through working many different jobs.
So, dust off your resume and go find a job, any job. And if you're miserable there, be honest with yourself about why you hate it so. Then, look for a job that doesn't have that aspect to it that you hate so. Once you find your dream job, you'll be happier and wealthier (hopefully).

..No, of course not..If we know who we are within our self, and are healthy and well balanced emotionally, mentally, there is absolutely no good reason why we would or should get depressed right along with them..People that would do this, will not have a healthy esteem of who they are and/or they are co-dependant, or they too, are depressed..Depression is an illness and this should be looked at no differently than if someone had any other illness..It is one thing to be empathetic, quite another to allow someone this type of control over our feelings/emotions or basically, our minds..I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone any where, "hanging out" continually with someone who is depressed all the time and not seeking healthy treatment for it..There will always be negative people in the world, so this is also where healthy, emotionally stable people will most always take what they say, with "a grain of salt" and continue on their merry ways...

Why don't you set up your own business? That way you can make yourself rich instead!
I also hate the fact that I'm slaving away making someone else rich...but it just has to be done for a short while.
Anyway visit this site to earn a little extra dole pocket money. They'll send you a £50 after a few months just for answering online questions (only takes a few minutes!)

Lazy ar*eholes like you make me sick. You want to sponge off the dole, eh? Try living off £45.50 a week, whether or not you are living rent-free. Believe me, it sucks and it is more hellish and depressing than having a job.
If you think materialism is so evil, why bother claiming off the dole? How dare you live like this. You think you're so clever, don't you.
Go live in the mountains, you freak, and don't bother us again.
F**k right off, you t**t!
EXCUSE ME! If you read my answer right, you would see that I DON'T have a job, and that is why I am so damn miserables and am p!ssed off at a*seholes like you who use 'materialism is evil' as an EXCUSE not to get off their butts and do a day's work. I suppose Mummy and Daddy pay for everything?
Go smoke some dope and live in Tibet. A***HOLE!

Work is a thing we all need to do, but why not combine work with your read. Why not work in a libary or in a place with lots of books a book shop. You may find you can work in a archive with lots of scripts and books, etc. That way you make money to do something you enjoy.
