I'm aware that there are various calendars that have existed (and various ones still do, today), but I specifically needed to know the year (AD) that our modern calendar was devised and introduced.

BC = before christ, AD = Anno domini
i'm not sure when does it started to devise, but it was widely used in the europe during around the 8th century, thats the period where christian religion starts to grow and eventually dominate the other religion.

It has to do with Before Christ and After Death (of Christ). I have to assume that Christianity plays a role in it....
