Hi!
there are innumerable web pages of Austria and Wikipedia has a lot.
The beauty of the white clad mountaintops with meadows and clear streams to the flat fields in Eastern Austria, the history starting from stone age through whole of medieval Europe, the music, the cooking , the beautiful cities-have inspired poets, painters, musicians.
If you think that Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven (for most part of his composing life), Schubert ao, were Austrians. Freud lived and worked in Vienna.
Basicly Vienna is unbeliavable with the monuments, buildings, parks, and Danube -and the Viennese living quite a comfortable and modern life there. Raisins are not prohibited in Austria -a lot of the exquisite pastries and tarts include them. There are a lot of foreigners in Austria, also blacks, so they are not unseen there. Many international organizations have their headquarters in Vienna like IAEA= the International Atomic Energy Organization.
There is a lot of modern architecture also. If you want to see something really amusingly interesting, type in Hundertwasser on your computer. Literally Hundertwasser means 100 waters but he was an Austrian architect who built ao a very interesting townhouse in Vienna (Hundertwasserhaus). Wikipedia has about these and in Wikipedia are links to pictures of the house; really worth seeing. Wikipedia on Austria has a lot of links -so go ahead and research -or do it together with your friends.
Vienna has a lot of music, Strauss waltzes -and also jazz and modern stuff in addition to the classic.
Austria is more than Vienna, though. South side of the Alps like Graz and surroundings have a pleasant climate, a lot of skiing and hiking and a lot of skiing on the Alps -Austria has always world class skiers. Tirol with Sound of Music type of landscape Sound of Music depicts actually Austria and you can see those meadows there and so on!
But go to internet and see for yourself; Austria is beautiful! Austrians are friendly and "nicht fanatisch" (=not fanatic!), they tend to be relaxed and polite. They have seen a lot from the Holy Roman Empire through Napoleons wars through Nazi occupation through modern participation in European Union. When the Princess of Parma (=from Northern Italy) was married to the Austrian emperor in the 18th century, she had 400 horsecarriages taking her dowry over the Alps to Vienna -so all kinds of things have happened there and all kind of people have visited them.

Alles Gute (=everything good!)
wishes

friend of Austrians

I hosted an exchange student from Vienna. The most interesting things I remember from the experience (I mean, things most people would not realize about Austria) were:
1) Raisins are illegal in Austria, so she ate a lot of them here!
2) Americans always ask Austrians if there are kangaroos all over the place (Americans must be stupid because they don't even know that Austria and Australia are two different countries)
3) She had never seen a black person until attending our high school here because there are no blacks over there 4) They do not like pizza very much, but when they eat it, they usually eat it with strange toppings like pineapple and ham or sausage
5) A typical food they eat at Christmastime is fish soup, and apparently it is disgusting but everyone eats it anyway
