I heard one of my neighbors saying that they can detect my connection and i can tell that they're hooking on my connection. How can they possibly hook on my connection even if it has a passkey. im the only one who knows the key. Can i do something to make my wireless connection more secure? Please provide me with steps on how to do this.

If you are using WEP encryption it can be cracked. The 128 bit version is considerably harder to crack than the 64 bit version but it is crackable by someone who knows what he or she is doing.

If your wireless supports WPA, use that. It is uncrackable. Unless someone gets a lucky guess on your passkey.

If your system doesn't support WPA, check for a firmware update that enables that technology.

If the best you can do is WEP, use the 128 bit version and change the passkey weekly. NEVER use one of the pre-configured passkeys! They are well known and anyone trying to hack a wireless will try those first. Make one up on your own, keep it random, and change it often.

Please ignore the guidance to use MAC filtering. That person does NOT know what he is talking about! I can bypass that in seconds -- and lock you out of your system! MAC filtering provides NO security!

There is no way to keep anyone out of anyone's connection.
I have a suggestion; try getting a brand name wirless connection like 2wire or Hawking.

log in to your wireless router
go to security settings, configure it to take the MAC address only
not WAP or any other security type
of course you know how to get your MAC address?
start-run, type CMD
then ipconfig
you'll get it from there
