The same type of foam (memory foam) used by NASA in the space shuttle.
Its expensive, but can be purchased in the form of pillows or mattresses.
If you use a pillow of this material, cut a pocket into it, insert the egg and glue it shut to prevent the egg from falling out.

My friend and I had a science porject once where we had to keep three raw eggs from breaking. We made a nice little egg holder out of small kleenex box and stuffed the box with wheat bread. None of the eggs broke and we got the best grade in the class.

When I did that one for school, I used sand. Fine sand is excellent at dispersing energy. any fine powder would work. In retrospect I think Flour would be a better choice, messier and more fun, with the same effect. It will however destroy your outside container.
