America and Americans held real global power for the first time and so we wanted to play with the big boys.
The wealthy people built a treaties, markets and foreign investments within outdated systems incapable of handling the newer politcal and economic forces.
We got in over our head and the only solution we could find was to blow Dresden, Berlin, Hiroshima and Nagasaki to smithereens.
(And we are making the same mistakes all over again)

This is a global society, with information traveling at the speed of sound, judgments and decisions are made in real time now, not like the dark ages of communications of the 1950's or even the 1980's? Back then two days was a fast reply! And I agree with the rest of the panel read a book and learn the answer, most kids today have no-clue about history or current affairs, just watch the, "Tonight Show"?

Real fast --- you will have to fill in the rest yourself:
Isolationist until the early 1900's.
Then militarily due to WW1 and WWII.
Economically followed militarily and was actually caused by the military needs to have bigger, better, quicker weapons (led to great scientific advances - always has and probably always will)
And Last - politically. Probably not because the US was any better than anyone else - we just had the economy and the military.
