I was wondering about this as our world becomes smaller with TV to DVD releases. Are there any American shows which run simultaneously on American and British airways? Not necessarily at the same time, mind you. due to the Time difference.

For example: is the season of Desperate Housewives season 3, which is running currently on American television, being shown currently on British Television? Do they show the season late on European TV, followed by DVD in America, followed by DVD in Europe? Feel free to give examples about any American TV Show.

Thanks for answering.

Here in the UK we get most American TV shows slightly later than they're shown in the States.

For example, season 3 of Desperate Housewives hasn't started here yet. Season 2 of Lost has only recently finished on terrestrial TV, so Season 3 won't be starting for a little while. Season 13 of ER won't start until January. Arrested Development is about half-way through season 3. No channel is showing Heroes yet.

However, we tend to show entire seasons in a complete run, with no mid-season break and no repeats midway through the season. So, this means we quite often catch up with the US towards the end of the season. In some cases, this is why we start showing it later - so that we don't have a break and can show new episodes every single week from the start to the end of the season.

For example, in the case of ER we start the season a bit later than it starts in the States (January, instead of September), but by the end of the season we're only about a week behind you guys.

Because of this, in some cases we even end up running the last few episodes of the season ahead of the US (e.g. Stargate SG1). This isn't very common though.

In some rare cases we air the TV shows before they're shown in the States (e.g. season 1 of Battlestar Galactica was shown months before it was aired in the US, and completed it's run here before it even started in America).

Finally - you're right in your suggestion that most TV shows are shown on American TV first, then British TV, then DVD in America and then DVD in Britain. I assume the same is true for the rest of Europe, although in some cases there may be an additional time-delay while they re-dub into a different language.

Well living in Holland, I can tell you, that almost every big time hit series is found here on TV, We're a bit behind, some series more then others, but with movies, Holland is actually one of the first European countries that shows new releases.
Luckily we don't (like Germans) have American TV-shows translated, but subtitled, that's also the reason we're a bit behind, (every thing has to be subtitled, and also un-"beeped" as we get it all uncensored!!)
Desperate housewives eg is at the end of season 2 now.
And of course we have CNN on cable, so I'd say we are pretty OK with our American shows!

Alot of our tv shows help influence their shows and vice versa. So while they might not be watching the exact show such as Prison Break, they may have already been thru their version of Deal or No Deal or Survivor which is the same concept, but differerent host/stars.

a million- people touch their ft in public. It looks gross. 2- people communicate loud and often disturb others. 3- Licking hands, eating food with palms... (table manners at the instant are not totally stepped forward in people). those are all that go my concepts. i'm Turkish btw, and that i don't intend to be impolite. i could in no way say that to any American in the face, yet if you consider that i don't comprehend you and that i've got faith you're truthfully asking the question, i'm offering you with a pair of critiques. And no offense btw, each usa has its very own rudeness so in a feeling, each usa is somewhat impolite. And some thing impolite in a usa won't be impolite in yet another usa. Like in Turkey, taking somebody elses place in line isn't often impolite, yet i comprehend it extremely is extremely impolite in united statesa..

I went to Britain in the late 70's. MOST of our shows were on their tv. They were just as caught up with "Dallas" as mnay Americans were. Their news programs were 50% about us. It amazed me.

THEY SHOW IT ON SATELLITE. No we don't watch it the same time we are on different time zones. Even in America we don't watch shows at the same time. Like in Florida we watch friends at 7:00 but in new york we watch it at 3:30. Hope that helped!~!!!!!!!!!
