It will go dormant, but being young, the younger growth may winter-kill, and need overseeding in the spring. Overall, fall is a good time to overseed a lawn, but I would start a new lawn sooner to take advantage of the September rain and warmer weather.

It depends on what kind of grass it is, where you live, and how old the seed is. If you planted in the late spring/early summer it should be fine.

Young sprouts are vulnerable to frost, but it's freezing that really hurts it.
