I think a more important question is "Why do they USE those guns at school?"

I took guns to school all the time. It had nothing to do with being cool or feeling threatened. We got out at 3:00. That gave me an hour an half to go pheasant hunting on the way home, or a couple hours of daylight to hunt deer or small game, or set up to take out some varmints.

I was not alone. Most of the other male students did the same thing. We never had any problems with anyone - even the wierd dudes.

We need to figure out what has changed with the people. School shootings were not a problem not that many years ago. Something is going on with the kids these days that is creating an emotional and intelectual environment that fosters these ideas and motives. We to identify this and get it fixed.

im sure most don't.
kids in violent areas do for protection - unfortunately this perpetuates the violence there.
confused, un-supervised, mentally/morally and socially disturbed kids also bring weapons to school - a better question here is what made them so confused and disturbed? - violence in the media, lack of supervision and boundaries, lack of love and understanding from parents, family, friends, teachers; the cruelty and intolerance of other students and even some teachers. Not enough early attention given to problems (eg-young children who demonstrate anti-social and violent behavior: torturing animals, etc)

I don't know, I think it's at least all of these reasons.

I would think that the student who feels he needs to take a weapon to school for the purpose of killing, is mainly the reason that they are usually targets of verbel/physical abuse, and when they get to that point where they deem that their peers lives are no longer sacred, they lack the mental/physical strength to undertsand reason, and are afraid of the their peers, so a deadly weapon such as a gun allows its user to "punish" those who verbally and physically abused them becuase it empowers them, when they couldn't defend themselves before now they can point squeeze and feel like they are powerful...

Because they are stupid. I any kid caught in school with a weapon should automatically be thrown out for the remainder of the year and forced to repeat the grade.
