No need to get nasty with me and flame me, call me names and blah blah blah...I am asking this primarily about my kids and my situation. I have two mixed kids of my own, and nearly everywhere I go, someone annoys the life out of me going on and on about how beautiful their eyes are, or their hair is so "good", and how their skin is so exotic colored...etc, etc and then when people see me (black) and my husband (white) they always compare features and the compliments are always based on my kids being mixed, not their individual attributes as human beings. It makes me upset.

I see it happen with other mixed kids too. It's usually black people or persons of other cultures that tend to ramble on and on, but I've gotten this deal from some of everybody. Even the nurse that delivered my baby girl. What is the fascination? Yes, I agree my kids are beautiful, but they are not the avatar of Buddha or anything. What can I kindly say weird situations like these without sounding rude?

I would say "Yes, they are, as are all Gods children"

I'm white, and I notice too that everyone is obsessed with anyone exotic looking. I think this is kind of backlash from the period of time in which white was considered more beautiful than non-white. You know what i mean? All I hear about now when I listen to music are girls with chocolate skin, big booties, etc. I also watch music videos, and mixed females must make up 75% AT LEAST of the girls in the videos. Not a white girl in sight in any r&b or rap video I've seen lately. I think people are just responding and rebelling to years in the past when skinny white girls with big breasts were considered the "IN" thing. Unfortunately I'm a skinny white girl with no as* and big boobs, so I"m shi* out of luck! As for what to say in response, I'd just say thank you and forget about it. You can't change a HUGE trend that has overcome all of society, so just go with it, and feel fortunate that your children were born during a time when their exotic looks are the most coveted of all looks.

My son is white (me) and Asian (my husband) and he is absolutely beautiful. But I'm biased.
Seriously, it is funny, though I do get comments about how cute he is, the only people who comment on the racial mix are Asians (usually ones who also have mixed babies of their own) and then they act like they are my best friend. Is there a club or something?
I really think a lot of the comments (from older people) come from a time when this was just not okay. Now, it is all new to them (such as my grandmother). Others comment for various reasons of their own whether they think that child is beautiful without thinking of race or they feel one race is superior than the other and the blending of the two improves the so-called inferior race (that was nasty just to type it but many do feel this way).
I personally like to see mixed children (though I wouldn't be crass enough to comment on it) because it shows how far we have come to accept mixed race relationships. Sadly, we still have far to go.

Not everyone is. Blacks kids are black no matter what they mix with. Bi-racial, my as/s. They are going to grow up with an inferiority complex and their parents are going to register them as whatever gets the most Affirmative Action perks.
