I don't think child molesters can ever fully be rehabilitated. They should spend the rest of their lives behind bars. You let em out they will just do it again. Even rapists and murders condemn them. They are the lowest of the low and should be treated as such.

Hardcore child molesters must be kept away from children, obviously.
But a "sex offenders" list could be populated with guys who got caught receiving head outside a bar, or an 18 year old who has been prosecuted for having sex with an almost 15 year old.
These are not necessarily highly perverse child molesters and may be overrepresented on sex offender lists.
People who have not been prosecuted for child molestation, like some priests, are not on sex offender lists at all.
So the prescription for keeping kids safe would be parental supervision and monitoring of church and school situations by chaperones.
If there is only a 1% chance of re-offense in the violent rape of a young child this is a different risk than a 1% chance of re-offense by a late-teens woman making lewd advances to a mid-teens guy.
Each individual case should be evalutated by courts, with an eye toward reasonable levels of public safety. But just having all serious offenders locked up doesn't mean it would be okay to just let children associate with anyone.

The problem with mandatory life sentences for all child molesters is that it virtually eliminates that any of them will ever plead guilty to a charge. This means they all go to trial. This means that alot more very young and very traumatized kids have to testify in open court in front of offenders (there are exceptions to this rule, but they are very limited). Not all kids testify well and a minority just can't testify at all. This puts molesters back on the street without supervison or registration and that is not a good thing.

Yep. Life. Either that or if someone has a person such as this in their family, he should be monitored at all times and kept away from children or teens. It has been a proven fact for some time that child molesters cannot be rehabilitated. It is just not worth the risk.

Thanks to the passing of the Adam Walsh Bill. Sex offender convicted over a certain amount of times, can be jailed for life in many states. Also, sex crimes against minors under the age of 14 now secures a much faster path toward life imprisonment. And some states are entertaining capital punishment in some cases.

I think we need to have stricter rules. Not all of the Megan's Law websites have all the registered sex offenders listed because the offenders sometimes don't enlist. or some states don't have pics of these scums. I think that they should get life. They have ruined their victims life forever. He/She can never forget anything so traumatic.

Aside from execution, it is the only way to make sure they never do it again. Now, execution can be traumatic for the victim, strangely enough, and, if the molester just so happens to be in reality an innocent person doing time for a guitly one, execution turns out to be completely irreversible, while life in prison, well...... there can be at least SOME remedy...........

Most states do have the sex offender registry. I'm sure that politicians would say there isn't enough room in jail for these wastes of life.
I'd say, legalize marijuana and there will be plenty of room in jail for the people who actually deserve it.

As a victim myself I have to agree that something drastic needs to be done. I simply cannot believe that in this day and age, with all the publicity that child abuse cases garner that they would have the nerve to let child molesters live near schools. That baffles me. And the people defending that Foley dude need to be kicked in the nuts.

to add something i would like alot of you to think about. a friend of mine has an older brother in jail for sexual abuse to a minor. He was 21 and dating a 17 year old who lied about her age. Her parents knew, and hid the truth as well. until they faught with him for god knows what and then pressed charges against him. he will never be the same and has will now never see what his potential to be in life will be. Is that fair. Would it have been fare to give him life for what he did? It has to be looked at both ways.
