Yes, in fact more than slightly.

I'm also concerned that more people will tend to vote for some rubbish like Big Brother than they will in a political election (yet plenty will complain about the government, having not bothered to do anything to change it).

So-called celebrities have a big responsibility to encourage the general public to focus on matters that are of genuine importance, rather than on themselves and what hairstyle they have or who they happen to be sleeping with that week.

I agree 100%. Excellent question.
Here in NY, the front page is all about Cory Lidle who drove his airplane into a building.
"COREY LIDLE 1972-2006"
I mean, was he even that famous?? That warrants a front page obituary dedication?
And all the media about "TomKat" and their baby, and Tom Cruise losing his Paramount deal, while, like you say, the war in Iraq is pushed to page 7 ?

I find it extremely disturbing. Not that i agree with him in the slightest (i hate the guy to death; im an italian New Yorker), but this is why Osama bin Laden hates us. He says our morals and priorities are all screwy and this is why our nation is suffocating itself. Should he have flown 2 airplanes into the WTC to make his point? I think thats a bit extreme, especially since "Allah told him to", but thats a different point.....

When i see someone like 50 Cent making PlayStation 2 games and making films about his criminal past and MAKING MONEY from it, i'm disgusted. The media has prioritized things for us, making us into imbeciles.

Wanna know who has it right? Listen to the lyrics of "American Idiot" by Green Day. The song is borderline genius, as it badmouths the media and their senseless prioritization of nonsense as "the news".

10/13/06: Case in Point: NY DAILY NEWS THIS MORNING.
Page 2: How Mel Gibson got drunk again right after he posted bond the night he was arrested for drunken driving.
PAGE 30 (thats right, THIRTY)>> The highlights of the NY State Attorney Genreal Debate between Faso and Spitzer.

Yeah, Mel's drunken rampage is much more important thatn the Atty General for our state.........

Not really, its common (and probably natural) for people to run away and/or ignore difficult issues/problems - easier to live in denial.

Still, "society" is a somewhat overstated and misused word to describe what we perceive as the "norm". In reality I bet there are tons of people out there making a difference in "society"...in a good way, but of course we hardly hear about them, don't let the media influence your thinking and judgment, question everything.

Lastly, its fun to watch celebrities make fools of themselves.....so why not ;-)

I accept as true with the solutions published via Anointed via blood and purple Spun. there is not any unfastened speech the place those anybody is in touch as any grievance is censored. This internet site is a chief occasion as any answer or question that is going against them is rapidly reported and bumped off. notwithstanding, anybody is waking as much as what's occurring of their international places and their persistence is being sorely examined. whilst the backlash eventuality occurs, politicians would be working around like headless chickens thinking how the hell to handle the mess they created inspite of years of being warned and years of burying their heads interior the sand.

Well I didn't look at it that way, but yes the world is more inters ted in celebrities than world events the only when their they are interested is when Agelina jolie goes to Africa with her kids.

I think that we as a nation are more concerned about Pete and Nikki, Keri Catona's love life, and Kate Moss's drug problem than we are with the fact that there are no spaces in prisons for criminals with the knock on effect of earlier release for inmates.

Sometimes current events are too depressing to concentrate on all the time, celebrities are more for comic relief

Yeah. It's also disturbing that more Americans vote for their favorite couple on "Dancing With The Stars" than vote for their political leaders. At least that's what I think. Not sure if it's completely true, but it wouldn't surprise me if it were.

Yea, I have realized this but I guess society is more interested in who celebrities hook up with and what they wear rather than the real issues

Maybe slightly, but that's the way it's always been since I can remember. It doesn't make it ok, but that's life. One must stay focused. You do your part & let society do what it does best.
Nothing.
